Blogging For Beginngers: Start Where You Are (And Start With Intention)

So… you want to start a blog?

Whether you've been dreaming about this for years or just had the idea over your morning coffee, I want you to know: you can do this. But before you start stressing about logos, fonts, or a fancy launch plan—take a deep breath. Because the best place to begin? Is right where you are.

But let’s also be honest: while you can start scrappy (and you should), thinking with intention will save you time, energy, and confusion down the road.

Here’s a guide to get your blog going with clarity and confidence. Download your Blog Checklist below and follow along.

Let’s break it down:

📨 Step 1: Start Fresh with an Email

Before you do anything else, create a new email address just for your blog. This helps you keep things organized
and looks more professional when you start building your brand.

Try something simple: yourblogname@gmail.com

Or go custom later: hello@yourdomain.com

This becomes your anchor for logins, subscriptions, tools, and outreach.

🌐 Step 2: Pick a Blogging Platform

Choose a platform that feels doable for you right now. My top beginner-friendly picks:

Blogger – Simple, free, and perfect for getting started with minimal setup

WordPress.com – More customization, but a little more learning curve
Wix or Squarespace – Visual builders with lots of design flexibility
Substack – If you want to focus more on newsletters and writing than full web design

Don't overthink it. Just pick one and go. You can always switch later.

💡 Step 3: Choose a Niche (or just a direction)

You don’t need to have your entire niche locked in—but having a direction helps.

Ask yourself:

What do I love talking about?
What do people ask me for advice on?

What do I want to be known for?

Whether it’s beauty, books, business, or life as a new parent—own your voice.

Pro tip: Start with one clear theme. You can grow or pivot later.

🖼️ Step 4: Think About Your Brand (Lightly)

No need to drop $5k on branding. But a few early decisions can help you feel more grounded:
Blog Name: Choose something that feels true to you. It doesn’t need to be clever—just clear.
Logo: Use Canva to create a simple wordmark with clean fonts.
Color Palette: Pick 2–3 colors you love. Keep it consistent.
Font Pairing: One bold font for headings, one clean font for body text.
That’s it. Clean, simple, intentional.

📱 Step 5: Start Thinking Social

You don’t need to be on every platform—just pick one to start.

Instagram is great for visuals and storytelling

Pinterest is amazing for traffic (especially with blog content)
LinkedIn if your blog has a professional or educational angle
TikTok if you're into short-form video and personality-led content

Create a handle that matches your blog name, if possible. Start sharing value—even if you don’t have a lot of content yet. Let people into the process.

🧭 Final Thoughts: Done > Perfect

Don’t wait until everything is “ready.”

Buy the domain. Write the intro post. Upload the first photo. Tell your people.

Blogging isn’t about perfection—it’s about showing up and growing as you go.
